Private Prague Art Nouveau and Cubism Tour

2 hours and 30 minutes

Easy

discover the most gorgeous and original modern architecture of Prague

In the first 15 years of the 20th century, Prague was still riding the big wave of prosperity created by the industrial revolution and capitalism. Something however changed from the previous period: The architecture got weird and beautiful. No longer restrained by the stencils of historical styles, Prague developed its own peculiar version of what became known across Europe as Art Nouveau, and just before World War I, it introduced architectural cubism to the world, blending inspiration from Einstein, Picasso and the finest ideas of modernism.

Virtually all of these buildings from this period are perfectly preserved in Prague and a big portion of them can be visited during this 2,5 hour tour, including the most important ones.

Meet your educated and articulate guide at Prague's Central Train Station from 1901, continue to see an Art Nouveau synagogue, the showcase of world Art Nouveau styles at the Municipal House, get introduced to cubism at it's flagship building, the stunning 1911 House at the Black Madonna. See Art Nouveau banks, department stores and hotels, houses shyly toying with the controversial cubist elements or postulating them with full force.

In the second half of the tour, you and your guide will take public transportation to get closer to the area under the Vyšehrad fortress with the most famous cubist houses, where the tour ends. Tickets for public transportation there and back included.
